Queimadura is the Portuguese word for burn, referring to damage to the skin or other tissues caused by heat, electricity, radiation, or chemicals. The severity of a burn is typically classified into degrees, with first-degree burns affecting only the outermost layer of skin (epidermis), causing redness and pain. Second-degree burns penetrate deeper, affecting both the epidermis and dermis, resulting in blisters, swelling, and intense pain. Third-degree burns are the most severe, destroying the epidermis and dermis and potentially extending into subcutaneous tissue.
