Quadra

Quadra is a term with several meanings across Lusophone usage and beyond. In Portuguese, quadra most commonly denotes a sports court or playing surface, as in a basketball, futsal, volleyball, or tennis court. It can also refer to a city block or urban lot, the basic unit of city planning in many Portuguese-speaking regions, typically bounded by four streets.

Etymology: The word derives from Latin quadrum or quadr- meaning four, reflecting the concept of four sides or four units.

Other uses: In computing, the Quadra was a line of Apple Macintosh computers marketed by Apple in the early 1990s as high-performance models. In Canadian geography, Quadra Island is an island off the coast of British Columbia, named for the Spanish explorer Juan Francisco de la Bodega y Quadra. In music, Quadra is the title of Sepultura's 2020 studio album.
