Qadra

Qadra is a city and the administrative capital of the Veridian province in the fictional country of Veridia. Located on the delta of the Lorn River along the Veridian Coast, it serves as a regional commercial and cultural center. As of the latest census, the city proper has a population around 72,000 residents.

The city occupies a shallow delta plain with a mix of wetlands and urban areas. The climate is temperate with hot summers and mild winters; the adjacent coast provides bays and sandy beaches.

Qadra traces its origins to a medieval trading settlement established by river merchants in the 12th century. It grew through inland and maritime trade routes and gained city status in the 15th century. The 19th and 20th centuries saw industrialization and infrastructure expansion, culminating in post-independence modernization.

Qadra's economy centers on the port and logistics, manufacturing (textiles, food processing), and agriculture in surrounding countryside (citrus, olives). The city hosts a weekly market and a regional freight railway.

The population is ethnically diverse, with Veridians forming a plurality alongside communities of the Lara and Sokari peoples. Veridian is the official language; minority languages are spoken in neighborhoods. The city is religiously diverse, with practicing communities of Islam, Christianity, and local faiths.

Cultural life centers on markets, theater, and the annual Night of Rivers festival. The University of Veridia has a campus in Qadra, along with several vocational institutes.

Qadra is governed by a mayor and city council within the Veridian national framework. It is served by Qadra International Airport, a coastal port, and a freight railway that connects to inland hubs.

Major landmarks include Qadra Port, the Old Market, and Fort Sable, a hilltop fortress overlooking the river.
