Q1Qref

Q1Qref is a cross-system reference framework designed to provide compact, unambiguous identifiers for data resources and computational results across diverse data stores, including relational databases, document stores, object storage, and data catalogs. The project, attributed to the fictional Q1Qref Consortium, emphasizes reproducibility and provenance by enabling resolvable references rather than loose, opaque identifiers.

At its core, Q1Qref introduces a lightweight reference syntax and an accompanying resolver architecture. A Q1Qref reference consists of a scheme, a resource path, a version, and optional query parameters that capture metadata such as provenance checksums or access hints. A typical reference takes the form qref://provider/resource@version?params. References are designed to be resolvable through a Registry service that maps logical references to concrete, time-bound locations and enforces access control and audit trails.

Key components of the architecture include a Registry, which stores resource identities and policy information; a Resolver, which translates a Q1Qref into actionable fetch instructions; backends for various data stores; and Client SDKs that integrate Q1Qref references into applications and workflows. The framework also supports optional cryptographic signing and tamper-evident metadata to improve trust and traceability.

Q1Qref provides a lightweight query language, QQL, for expressing simple retrieval and filtering of referenced resources, enabling reproducible pipelines and audits. The project is positioned as an open standard with permissive licensing and governance by a community-driven foundation, with ongoing development and broader interoperability testing across platforms.
