Põiehaigus refers to a range of conditions that affect the urinary bladder. These conditions can impact the bladder's ability to store urine, empty properly, or can involve inflammation or structural abnormalities. Common symptoms associated with various bladder diseases include frequent urination, urgency, pain or burning during urination, difficulty emptying the bladder, and sometimes blood in the urine.

One of the most frequent bladder conditions is a urinary tract infection (UTI), often caused by bacteria entering the urethra and multiplying in the bladder. Cystitis, or inflammation of the bladder, is a common form of UTI. Another significant condition is interstitial cystitis, also known as painful bladder syndrome, which causes chronic bladder pain and pressure without an identifiable infection.

Bladder stones, formed from mineral deposits, can cause pain and urinary obstruction. Bladder cancer is a serious condition where abnormal cells grow in the bladder lining. Overactive bladder (OAB) is characterized by sudden, intense urges to urinate, often leading to incontinence. Conversely, underactive bladder can result in incomplete emptying.

Diagnosis of bladder diseases typically involves a medical history, physical examination, urine tests to check for infection or blood, and sometimes imaging studies like ultrasound or CT scans, or a cystoscopy to visualize the bladder lining. Treatment varies widely depending on the specific condition and can range from antibiotics for infections to lifestyle changes, medications to manage OAB, or surgical interventions for stones, tumors, or structural issues. Early diagnosis and appropriate management are crucial for effectively treating bladder diseases and improving quality of life.
