PõhjaPärnumaa

Põhja-Pärnumaa is a rural municipality in Pärnu County, located in southwestern Estonia. It was established in 2017 as part of the nationwide administrative reform by merging several former municipalities in the northern part of Pärnu County.

The administrative centre is the small borough of Vändra, where the municipal government operates and where local services, planning, and development decisions are coordinated for the area.

Geographically, the municipality includes a mix of farmland, forests, and several small rivers and waterways. The economy centers on agriculture and forestry, with additional activity from small businesses and growing rural tourism, which leverages the region’s natural landscapes and traditional village life.

The area comprises numerous villages and settlements with a relatively sparse population. The community is predominantly Estonian-speaking and is characterized by a strong local culture rooted in rural traditions, local governance, and communal life.

Cultural and natural assets include traditional Estonian village architecture, historical churches, and networked nature trails. These features support outdoor recreation such as hiking, cycling, and birdwatching, contributing to regional identity and modest tourism within the municipality.
