Pärnu

Pärnu is a city in southwestern Estonia. It lies on the coast of Pärnu Bay at the mouth of the Pärnu River and is the administrative centre of Pärnu County.

Historically, Pärnu developed as a seaside resort from the 19th century onward, attracting visitors from across the Baltic region. The town preserves many wooden villas and other period buildings from its resort era.

Today, tourism remains a central part of the local economy. The main attractions include Pärnu Beach, a long sandy shoreline popular in summer, the historic Old Town, and cultural institutions such as Pärnu Museum and Endla Theatre.

The city hosts cultural events and festivals throughout the year and serves as a regional centre for services, education, and healthcare.

Pärnu is connected by road and bus services to Tallinn and other areas; a seaport handles coastal traffic and a small marina serves recreational boating. The climate is maritime, with mild summers and cold winters.
