Päevakorra

Päevakorra is the Estonian term for the daily order of business or agenda for a meeting or day’s program. It serves as a guide for participants, outlining the topics to be discussed, the order of discussion, and often the time allocated to each item. The word combines päe-v (day) and kord (order), reflecting its function as the planned sequence of the day’s activities.

In its typical form, a Päevakorra includes the meeting title, date, venue, and a numbered list of items. Each item may contain a brief description, the expected speaker or responsible person, and an allotted time. Some versions note decisions to be made and references to documents or attachments to be reviewed. The document is usually prepared in advance and circulated to participants before the meeting.

Päevakorra is used in formal settings such as government bodies, municipal councils, corporate boards, schools, and other organizations to structure deliberations and ensure that important topics are addressed. It may also refer to the daily schedule of events within an organization or conference. While the agenda sets what will be discussed, it is often subject to adjustments during the meeting if required by the chair or circumstances.

The relationship to minutes is complementary: the agenda outlines anticipated discussions and decisions, while the minutes record what was actually discussed and decided for each item. In this sense, the Päevakorra provides the framework for orderly deliberation, whereas minutes provide an official account of the meeting’s outcomes.
