Pyroconvective

Pyroconvective is a term used to describe a phenomenon where intense wildfires generate their own localized weather systems. The extreme heat from a large fire causes the air above it to rise rapidly, creating powerful updrafts. This rising, hot air is known as convection. As the air ascends, it cools, and moisture within it condenses, forming clouds. In some cases, these clouds can become large enough and sufficiently organized to produce lightning, heavy rainfall, and even strong winds. These self-generated weather events can intensify the fire by spreading embers and creating new fire fronts, or in some instances, the rainfall can help to suppress the fire. Pyroconvective activity is often associated with large, fast-moving wildfires, particularly in dry conditions.
