Puusaprobleeme

Puusaprobleeme is an Estonian term describing a range of conditions affecting the hip joint and surrounding tissues, including bones, cartilage, muscles, tendons, and bursae. The conditions can result from aging, injury, overuse, or inflammatory disease, and vary in severity from mild discomfort to disabling pain.

Common causes include osteoarthritis of the hip, femoroacetabular impingement, labral tears, hip fractures, bursitis, tendinopathies (such as gluteal tendinopathy), snapping hip syndrome, and avascular necrosis. In youths, conditions like slipped capital femoral epiphysis are relevant.

Symptoms typically include pain in the hip or groin area, stiffness, reduced range of motion, limping, and pain with walking or stairs. Some patients wake with morning stiffness; others have clicking or catching sensations.

Diagnosis relies on clinical examination and imaging. Evaluation includes medical history, physical tests to assess range of motion and strength, and imaging such as X-ray, MRI, or CT to identify bone or joint damage.

Treatment is individualized. Non-surgical approaches include activity modification, physical therapy, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, analgesics, weight management, and injections. Surgical options may include hip arthroscopy for labral tears or FAI, osteotomy for alignment issues, or total hip replacement for advanced arthritis or unreconstructable damage.

Prognosis varies by underlying condition and treatment; many hip problems respond to conservative therapy, while some require surgery for pain relief and functional improvement. Early diagnosis and management can improve outcomes.
