Putkiosat

Putkiosat is a Finnish term referring to pipeline stations or nodes in fluid transport networks, where different sections of a pipeline are controlled, measured, and distributed. The word is formed from putki (pipe) and osa (part). In practice, putkiosat can be found along water, wastewater, oil, and gas transmission and distribution systems.

Putkiosat serve several roles in pipeline networks: regulating pressure, controlling flow, isolating segments for maintenance or safety, and providing measurement and telemetry. Typical equipment may include valves for isolation, regulators or compressors, metering devices, and remote monitoring systems. In natural gas networks, odorization and leak detection features are commonly integrated.

Different types of putkiosat exist depending on function and product. Valve stations provide isolation, while pressure-regulating stations control upstream pressure. Metering and regulation stations combine measurement with flow control. In water or wastewater networks, pump stations or booster stations may form part of a putkiosat cluster, depending on the system design.

Design and operation emphasize safety, reliability, and integration with control systems. Site selection considers accessibility, terrain, environmental impact, and regulatory requirements. Construction uses corrosion protection and safeguarding against accidental releases.
