Putkimuovattu

Putkimuovattu refers to a manufacturing process used to create hollow plastic objects. The term translates roughly to "tube-molded" or "pipe-molded" in English. This technique is a variation of injection molding, but instead of filling a solid cavity, it involves injecting plastic into a mold that has a core or a mechanism to create a hollow space.

There are several methods that fall under the umbrella of putkimuovattu. One common approach is blow molding, where a pre-formed plastic tube (parison) is heated and then inflated with air inside a mold, forcing it to take the shape of the mold cavity. Another related process is extrusion blow molding, which is used for larger items like tanks and barrels. In some cases, a core rod can be inserted into an injection mold to create a hollow section, a technique sometimes referred to as core-back molding or hollow injection molding.
