Pushlock

Pushlock refers to a type of fastener or locking mechanism that engages when a component is pushed into place. This design typically involves a spring-loaded or friction-based system that holds the parts together until a deliberate action, such as pulling or twisting, is performed to release them. Pushlock mechanisms are commonly found in various applications where quick and secure assembly or disassembly is desired.

One common example is in plumbing, where pushlock fittings allow pipes to be connected without the need for specialized tools like crimpers or wrenches. The pipe is simply pushed into the fitting, and internal O-rings and gripping rings create a watertight seal and secure hold. To disconnect, a release collar is often pressed to disengage the gripping mechanism.

In furniture and cabinetry, pushlock latches are used to keep doors and drawers closed. These latches can be activated by simply pushing the door or drawer shut, with a spring-loaded bolt extending to catch a strike plate. A subsequent push to the door or drawer releases the bolt, allowing it to be opened. This provides a clean, handle-free look.

The principle of pushlock also extends to automotive components, electronic connectors, and even some types of toys, where ease of use and a positive locking action are key design considerations.
