PushFeeds

PushFeeds is a distributed content delivery and event push system designed to deliver updates from publishers to subscribers in real time. It supports pushing items such as news articles, social posts, alerts, and telemetry data through transport mechanisms like WebSocket, Server-Sent Events, and HTTP webhooks. The goal is low latency delivery, scalable fan-out to large subscriber sets, and reliable delivery guarantees across geographically distributed systems.

The term and general approach emerged as real-time web capabilities expanded in the 2010s, evolving from pub/sub messaging and push notification services to feeds optimized for continuous updates. Several open-source and commercial platforms implemented PushFeeds-like abstractions to decouple publishers from receiver logic and to enable real-time dashboards and alerting.

Architecturally, PushFeeds consists of publishers, brokers or routers, and subscribers. Topics or channels provide routing keys; messages are fan-out to all interested subscribers. Common features include backpressure handling, durable queues, message deduplication, retries, and at-least-once delivery. Security and reliability are provided via authentication, authorization, TLS, and idempotent processing on the subscriber side. Implementations may layer on top of existing message brokers or expose custom transports over websockets or HTTP/2.

In operation, a publisher sends a message to a topic. The broker distributes the message to all currently connected subscribers and buffers for those that are offline. Subscribers acknowledge receipt; failed deliveries trigger retries with backoff. Administrators monitor latency, throughput, and error rates, and can configure rate limiting and quota controls per channel.

PushFeeds is commonly used for real-time news feeds, social content streams, live dashboards, alerting, and IoT telemetry streams. It offers lower latency compared with polling but introduces complexity in error handling and coherence across distributed subscribers. Compatibility with existing infrastructure and security policies often drives architectural choices, including whether to host the system on premises or in the cloud.
