Punktmassor

Punktmassor, often translated as point masses or point particles, are a fundamental concept in classical mechanics. A punktmassa is an idealized object that possesses mass but has no physical dimensions. This means its size and shape are considered negligible, allowing it to be treated as a single point in space.

The concept of a punktmassa simplifies complex physical problems. Instead of dealing with the rotational motion and internal structure of an extended body, one can analyze its motion by considering only its translational movement. This is particularly useful when the size of an object is insignificant compared to the distances over which its motion is being studied. For example, when calculating the trajectory of a planet around the sun, the planet and the sun can be accurately approximated as punktmassor.
