Puhelinkytkennän refers to the technical process and infrastructure that enables voice communication over telephone networks. Historically, this involved the physical connection of a subscriber's telephone to the local exchange, which then routed calls to other subscribers within the exchange or to wider national and international networks. Early systems relied on manual operators and switchboards, where connections were made by plugging cables into specific jacks.
