Pseudoprogressives is a term used to describe individuals or groups who adopt progressive-sounding rhetoric or policies for personal or political gain, without genuine commitment to progressive values. These actors may mimic progressive language and positions to appeal to progressive voters or to gain social capital within progressive circles, while their underlying motivations or actions may be self-serving, capitalist, or even conservative. The term suggests a performative adoption of progressive ideals rather than an authentic embrace of them.

The concept often arises in political and social commentary, where critics may label certain politicians, corporations, or movements as pseudoprogressive if they perceive a disconnect between their stated progressive aims and their actual behavior or impact. For example, a company might promote its environmental initiatives while simultaneously engaging in harmful labor practices, or a politician might advocate for social justice issues while benefiting from systems that perpetuate inequality. The key characteristic is the perceived insincerity or strategic manipulation of progressive ideals for purposes other than genuine social or economic betterment.
