Pruriginose is a term used in dermatology to describe a state of intense itching, often accompanied by scratching and the formation of excoriations. It is not a diagnosis in itself but rather a symptom that can be indicative of a variety of underlying skin conditions or systemic diseases. The sensation of pruritus, or itching, is a complex neurological response to stimuli that can trigger a desire to scratch.
