Prorepublic

Prorepublic is a term used in political discourse to denote advocacy for a republic as the preferred form of government. In this sense, it refers to supporters of republican principles—such as popular sovereignty, regular elections, accountability of leaders, and the absence of hereditary rule or autocratic authority. The exact meaning can vary by country and context, since what counts as a republic and which institutions are considered legitimate can differ widely.

Origin and usage are informal rather than tied to a single organization or doctrine. Prorepublic may appear as a label in slogans, campaign materials, or political commentary, and it can describe a stance within liberal, conservative, or left-leaning strands depending on the accompanying policy positions. It is not a standardized political movement with a universal platform.

Variants and related terms include republicanism, constitutionalism, and anti-monarchy movements. In some contexts, the adjective prorepublic is used to differentiate proponents of a republic from advocates of other forms of government, such as monarchies or authoritarian regimes.
