Common liquid propellants include kerosene and liquid oxygen, or liquid hydrogen and liquid oxygen.

Hybrid propellants combine aspects of both solid and liquid systems, typically using a solid fuel and a liquid or gaseous oxidizer. This offers some advantages in terms of safety and storability over liquid propellants, while allowing for throttling and shutdown capabilities not found in solid propellants.
