Promoció

Promoció, in Catalan, denotes the act of promoting or advancing the visibility of a product, service or idea. The term also denotes advancement or promotion within a group or organization and, in academic contexts, the graduating cohort of a class. In marketing, promoció refers to actions designed to increase awareness, demand and sales. The Spanish equivalent is promoción; in other languages, the forms differ slightly, but the concept is similar.

In marketing, promoció encompasses campaigns and tactics intended to stimulate consumer interest over a relatively short period. This includes price discounts, samples, coupons, contests, loyalty offers, advertising, public relations, events and point-of-sale materials. Promotions are typically planned within a broader marketing strategy and may complement other elements such as product, price, place and communication.

Planning and evaluation: A promoció campaign requires defining objective, target audience, budget, duration, and channels. Success is measured through metrics such as sales lift, market share, reach, engagement, and return on investment. Legal and ethical considerations include truthfulness of offers and consumer protection rules.

Contexts in Catalan usage include promoció de vendes (sales promotion), promoció interna (advancement within an organization) and promoció externa (external recruitment). The term also describes the graduation class of a given year, for example la promoció de 2024.
