Productionstriking, commonly referred to as a production strike, is a form of industrial action where workers involved in the creation of media content—such as films, television shows, music recordings, or video games—refuse to work until certain demands are met. These strikes are typically organized by labor unions representing the workers, such as actors, writers, directors, or technicians, and are often conducted to address issues like wages, working conditions, contract terms, or concerns over job security.

The most notable examples of productionstriking occur in the entertainment industry, particularly in Hollywood. Strikes in this sector can have significant economic and cultural impacts, as they halt or delay the production of films, TV series, and other media projects. For instance, the 2000–2001 Writers Guild of America (WGA) strike and the 2007–2008 SAG-AFTRA strike were major disruptions that affected numerous productions. More recently, the 2023 strikes by the WGA and the Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) were among the largest in history, involving thousands of workers and lasting several months.

The primary goals of a production strike usually revolve around improving compensation, securing residuals (payments from future revenue), addressing issues related to digital streaming, or protecting creative control. Striking workers often argue that their demands are necessary to sustain fair industry practices, while studios and production companies may resist changes due to concerns over increased costs or operational challenges.
