Prievols refer to a concept in the Pokémon video game series, specifically introduced in Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield (Generation 8), which allows certain Pokémon to evolve into new forms based on their held items rather than traditional leveling or trade methods. The term is a blend of "pre-evolution" and "evolution," highlighting that these Pokémon are not yet fully evolved but can undergo a transformation through item-based conditions.

Unlike traditional evolutions, privols do not require a specific level, trade, or move to trigger the change. Instead, the Pokémon must hold a particular item, such as the Dusk Stone or Dawn Stone, which alters their appearance and sometimes their stats or abilities. For example, Farfetch’d can become Sirfetch’d when holding a Scarf, while a Pokémon like Popplio may evolve into Brionne or Primarina based on whether it holds a Moon Stone or Dawn Stone, respectively.

Prievols expand the evolutionary progression of certain Pokémon, offering players additional variety in team composition and aesthetics. This mechanic also introduces new design elements, such as Sirfetch’d’s elaborate hat or Brionne’s elegant attire.
