Pressibility

Pressibility refers to the ability of a substance to be compressed or reduced in volume under pressure. It is a fundamental property of matter and is closely related to compressibility, often used interchangeably in some contexts. Materials with high pressibility can be significantly squeezed, while those with low pressibility resist compression. This property is particularly important in the study of gases, liquids, and solids, as well as in various engineering applications.

Gases generally exhibit high pressibility due to the large distances between their molecules and the weak intermolecular forces. Liquids have a lower pressibility than gases because their molecules are closer together and experience stronger attractive forces. Solids, in most cases, have very low pressibility because their molecules are tightly packed in a rigid structure.
