Pracownie

Pracownia (plural pracownie) is a Polish term referring to a room or space dedicated to work, craft, or creative production. It covers studios, workshops, and specialized rooms used in education, culture, or industry. The word derives from pracować, to work, with a suffix that marks a place associated with a particular activity.

In educational settings, pracownie include visual arts studios (pracownie plastyczne) and computer labs (pracownie komputerowe). In the arts and design sectors, a pracownia often denotes a studio or atelier used by artists, designers, or craftspeople. In industry or architecture, a pracownia can describe a workshop or drafting room within a company or firm (for example, pracownia architektoniczna or pracownia projektowa).

Typical features depend on the field but generally include workstations, appropriate tools, storage, and safety equipment. Equipment may range from woodworking benches and sewing machines to drafting desks or computer workstations. Adequate ventilation, lighting, and safety protocols are common requirements, and access is sometimes restricted to trained personnel.

Pracownia is distinct from laboratory terminology used for scientific experiments; a pracownia emphasizes production, creation, or repair rather than controlled experimentation. The plural pracownie is used for multiple spaces of this kind.
