Powyss

Powyss is a small municipality and village located in the South Moravian Region of the Czech Republic, within the Náchod District. The settlement lies in a rural part of the country, surrounded by mixed forest and agricultural land. Its geographic coordinates place it approximately 12 kilometres north of the district capital, Náchod, and about 75 kilometres northeast of the regional capital, Brno. The area of the municipality covers roughly 9.6 square kilometres and is situated at an elevation of 250 metres above sea level.

The population of Powyss is modest, with recent estimates showing between 300 and 350 residents. The demographic profile is characterised by a mix of long‑term inhabitants and a small proportion of newer residents attracted by the village's quiet environment and lower cost of living. Most inhabitants are engaged in small‑scale farming or commute to nearby towns for employment in services and industry.

Powyss has a number of cultural and historical assets. The local church, built in the Baroque style in the early 18th century, remains a focal point of community life and is recognized as a listed heritage building. An annual harvest festival is held each autumn, celebrating local agricultural products and traditional Moravian music.

The municipality maintains basic public services, including a primary school, a volunteer fire brigade, and a small community centre that hosts events and meetings. Access to Powyss is provided by regional bus routes connecting it to Náchod and other nearby villages, while major highways are within a short drive via the road network that runs through the region.
