Postprocessdeduplikointi, often translated as post-processing deduplication, is a technique used in data management and software development to identify and remove duplicate entries from a dataset after the initial processing or ingestion phase. Unlike in-line deduplication, which happens during data entry or transfer, post-processing deduplication is applied to a collection of data that has already been gathered. This approach can be beneficial when real-time deduplication is not feasible, too resource-intensive, or when the criteria for identifying duplicates are complex and require a comprehensive view of the entire dataset.

The process typically involves comparing records based on one or more attributes, such as names, addresses, unique identifiers, or a combination of fields. Sophisticated algorithms are often employed to handle variations in data, such as typographical errors, different formatting, or missing information. Techniques like fuzzy matching, exact matching, or rule-based comparisons can be used to determine if two records represent the same entity. Once duplicates are identified, they are either merged, flagged for review, or simply removed, depending on the desired outcome and the application's requirements. This method is common in data warehousing, customer relationship management (CRM) systems, and master data management (MDM) initiatives to ensure data accuracy and consistency.
