In professional licensing, such as for physicians, lawyers, engineers, or teachers, post-licensing typically includes renewal at defined intervals, continuing education or professional development requirements, and adherence to standards of practice. Licenses may be suspended or revoked for violations of conduct, competence, or scope of practice, and authorities may conduct audits or investigations as part of post-licensing oversight.

In product and industry licensing, especially for medicines, medical devices, or chemicals, post-licensing often entails post-authorization obligations. These can include pharmacovigilance, post-marketing surveillance, adverse event reporting, periodic safety update reports, and post-approval studies. Compliance with labeling, manufacturing standards, and distribution controls also continues after initial authorization, with authorities able to impose corrective actions or penalties for noncompliance.
