Postivaalit is a Finnish term that refers to the period after an election, particularly a parliamentary election, during which party configurations are tested and a new government is formed. The post-election phase also includes the setting of policy priorities and the preparation of the legislative agenda.

During postivaalit, parties engage in negotiations to form a government that can command a majority in parliament. In Finland and similar parliamentary systems, the leader of the party or coalition that can assemble a viable majority typically initiates talks that may involve several parties.
