Positsioneerimistäpsus refers to the accuracy of a device or system in determining its geographical location. This concept is crucial in various applications, including navigation, surveying, mapping, and precision agriculture. The precision of positioning is typically measured in meters, centimeters, or even millimeters, depending on the technology employed and the required level of accuracy.

Factors influencing positioning accuracy include the type of technology used, environmental conditions, and the quality of the data received. Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS), such as GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, and BeiDou, are common technologies for positioning. However, their accuracy can be affected by signal obstructions like tall buildings or dense foliage, atmospheric interference, and multipath effects where satellite signals bounce off surfaces before reaching the receiver.

To enhance positioning accuracy, various techniques are employed. Differential GNSS (DGNSS) uses a base station with a known location to correct errors in the rover's (the device being positioned) measurements. Real-Time Kinematic (RTK) is an advanced DGNSS technique that provides centimeter-level accuracy in real-time. Other methods include inertial navigation systems (INS), which use accelerometers and gyroscopes to track movement, and sensor fusion, which combines data from multiple sensors to improve the overall position estimate. The specific application often dictates the required level of precision and the most suitable positioning technology.
