Portugals

Portugals is not a standard term for a country or its people. In English, the inhabitants of Portugal are normally called Portuguese, and the corresponding adjective is Portuguese. The plural form “Portugals” is rarely used and is generally considered nonstandard or historical.

Portugal is a country in southwestern Europe, located on the western edge of the Iberian Peninsula. It is bordered by Spain to the east and north and by the Atlantic Ocean to the west and south. The capital and largest city is Lisbon. The country covers about 92,090 square kilometers and has a population of around 10.3 million.

The political system is a semi-presidential representative democratic republic. The president serves as head of state and the prime minister as head of government; the Assembleia da República is the unicameral legislature. Portugal is a member of the European Union and the eurozone, and it maintains a diversified economy with services, industry, and tourism as major sectors. Notable industries include cork production, textiles, footwear, and renewable energy.

The official language is Portuguese, a Romance language spoken globally in Brazil, parts of Africa, and other former colonies. Portuguese culture reflects a long maritime history and is known for contributions in literature, music (notably fado), cuisine, and historic architecture.
