Porlocks
Porlocks are a type of historical coastal defense structure found primarily in the United Kingdom. They are essentially wooden piers or jetties that extend into the sea or a tidal river, designed to facilitate the loading and unloading of goods and passengers in areas where a traditional harbor was not feasible. Their construction typically involved driving wooden piles into the seabed to form a stable platform, often with a ramp or gangway leading from the shore.
The term "porlock" itself is thought to derive from Old English words relating to a small harbor
Porlocks varied in size and complexity depending on the needs of the location and the available resources.
