Porakaivoon

Porakaivoon is a Finnish term that translates to "drilled well" or "borehole well." It refers to a type of water well constructed by drilling a hole into the ground to access groundwater. This method is commonly used for obtaining a private water supply for households, agriculture, or industrial purposes in areas not served by municipal water systems.

The process of creating a porakaivoon typically involves using a drilling rig to bore a hole of a specific diameter and depth into the aquifer. Once the desired depth is reached, a casing, usually made of plastic or steel pipe, is inserted into the borehole. This casing prevents the well from collapsing and protects the groundwater from surface contamination. A screen or filter is placed at the bottom of the casing to allow water to enter while keeping sediment out. A submersible pump is then installed within the well to bring the water to the surface.
