Polüübiks
Polüübiks is a term of Estonian origin that generally refers to a polyp. In a biological context, a polyp is an abnormal growth of tissue projecting from a mucous membrane. These growths can occur in various parts of the body, including the nose, intestines, uterus, and stomach. The exact cause of polyp formation is not always clear, but factors such as inflammation, genetic predisposition, and certain medical conditions are often implicated. Polüübiks can vary in size and may be sessile, meaning they have a broad base, or pedunculated, meaning they are attached by a stalk. Their appearance can range from small, smooth bumps to larger, more irregular masses. Some polüübiks are benign, while others have the potential to become cancerous over time, necessitating medical evaluation and sometimes removal. The diagnosis of polüübiks typically involves imaging techniques such as endoscopy or colonoscopy, depending on the location of the suspected growth. Treatment strategies depend on the type, size, and location of the polyp, and may include surgical excision or medical management.
