Polüuretaanist

Polüuretaanist is an Estonian term referring to polyurethane. Polyurethane is a versatile polymer composed of organic units joined by carbamate (urethane) links. It is formed by the reaction of a polyol with a diisocyanate or a polymeric isocyanate in the presence of catalysts and additives. This reaction results in a wide range of materials, from flexible and rigid foams to durable elastomers and coatings.

The properties of polyurethane can be extensively modified by choosing different polyols and isocyanates, as well as by incorporating various additives. This allows for the creation of materials with specific characteristics such as high abrasion resistance, excellent chemical resistance, good insulation properties, and flexibility at low temperatures.

Polyurethanes are used in a vast array of applications. Flexible polyurethane foams are commonly found in furniture cushioning, mattresses, and automotive seating. Rigid polyurethane foams serve as effective thermal insulation in buildings, refrigerators, and pipelines. Polyurethane elastomers are utilized in durable products like shoe soles, wheels, and seals. Polyurethane coatings offer protection and aesthetic appeal to surfaces like wood, metal, and concrete. Additionally, polyurethane is found in adhesives, sealants, and synthetic fibers. The widespread use of polyurethane is due to its adaptability and the favorable combination of physical and chemical properties it offers.
