Polüstüreeniks

Polüstüreeniks is a type of plastic material. It is a synthetic aromatic hydrocarbon polymer made from the monomer styrene. Polüstüreeniks can be rigid and clear or a foam material. Its properties vary depending on how it is processed.

When expanded, it becomes a lightweight, shock-absorbent material known as expanded polystyrene (EPS). This form is commonly used for packaging, insulation, and disposable cups. EPS has good thermal insulation properties, making it effective for keeping things warm or cold. It is also relatively inexpensive to produce.

In its solid, non-expanded form, polüstüreeniks is often used in consumer products like disposable cutlery, CD cases, and plastic models. It is a relatively hard and brittle plastic in this state. The clarity of solid polüstüreeniks makes it suitable for applications where transparency is desired.

Polüstüreeniks is a thermoplastic, meaning it can be melted and reformed repeatedly. However, it is not easily biodegradable and can persist in the environment for a long time. Recycling of polüstüreeniks is possible, but collection and processing can be challenging due to its low density and bulkiness, especially in its expanded form. Efforts are ongoing to improve recycling rates and develop more sustainable alternatives.
