Polytrimetylen
Polytrimetylen is a term encountered in some literature and databases but is not a single, well-defined polymer. In its broad usage, it can refer to polymers whose repeating unit contains three methylene groups (−CH2−CH2−CH2−). Because the repeat unit may be realized in different ways by different monomers and linkages, the exact chemical nature is context-dependent. Some authors use the term for hydrocarbon polyolefins with three-carbon repeats, while others reserve it for modified backbones derived from trimethylene-containing monomers.
Across interpretations, the backbone may be a pure hydrocarbon chain or incorporate heteroatoms or ester/ether linkages.
Synthesis approaches include condensation polymerization of diols with diacids or dihalides to form polyesters or polyethers
As a class, polytrimetylenes would be expected to be aliphatic, with good chemical resistance and relatively
