Polykrystalliskt

Polykrystalliskt refers to a solid material composed of many smaller individual crystals, known as crystallites or grains. These grains are randomly oriented with respect to each other. The boundaries between these grains are called grain boundaries. The properties of a polykrystalliskt material are often an average of the properties of the individual crystals, but can also be significantly influenced by the presence and characteristics of the grain boundaries. Many common engineering materials, such as metals, ceramics, and some polymers, are polykrystalliskt. The process of creating a polykrystalliskt structure often involves solidification from a liquid state or through solid-state transformations. Controlling grain size is a common objective in materials science and engineering to optimize material properties for specific applications. Smaller grain sizes generally lead to increased strength and hardness, while larger grain sizes can sometimes improve creep resistance at high temperatures.
