Polyesterireaktio

Polyesterireaktio, often translated as polyesterification, is a chemical reaction that forms polyester. This process involves the reaction between a dicarboxylic acid and a diol, or a diester and a diol. The key functional groups involved are carboxylic acids or esters and hydroxyl groups. During the reaction, water or an alcohol is eliminated as a byproduct, and a new ester linkage is formed between the monomer units. This repeating ester linkage is the defining characteristic of polyester polymers.

The polyesterireaktio can be catalyzed by acids or bases, and it typically proceeds through a step-growth polymerization mechanism. This means that small molecules (monomers) react to form dimers, then trimers, and so on, gradually building up longer polymer chains.
