Poligonhálózat

Poligonhálózat is a Hungarian term that translates to "polygon mesh" in English. It is a fundamental data structure in computer graphics and computational geometry used to represent the shape of three-dimensional objects. A polygon mesh is composed of a collection of vertices, edges, and faces that define the surface of an object. Vertices are points in three-dimensional space, edges are lines connecting pairs of vertices, and faces are typically polygons (most commonly triangles or quadrilaterals) whose boundaries are formed by edges.

The use of polygon meshes allows for the approximation of complex surfaces with a manageable number of simple geometric primitives. Triangles are particularly common due to their simplicity and the fact that any arbitrary surface can be tessellated into triangles. This makes them efficient for rendering and manipulation by computer hardware and software. Polygon meshes are used extensively in 3D modeling, animation, video games, virtual reality, and in scientific visualization.

The complexity of a polygon mesh is often measured by the number of vertices, edges, and faces it contains. More complex objects with finer details require a higher polygon count, which in turn demands more computational resources for processing and rendering. Techniques like level of detail (LOD) are employed to manage the complexity of meshes, using simpler versions for distant objects and more detailed versions for closer ones.
