Polarizabilitás

Polarizabilitás is a fundamental property of matter that describes how the electron cloud of an atom or molecule responds to an external electric field. When an electric field is applied, the positively charged nuclei and the negatively charged electrons within an atom or molecule experience forces in opposite directions. This separation of charge leads to the formation of an induced dipole moment. The polarizability quantifies the ease with which this induced dipole moment is created.

The greater the polarizability of a substance, the more easily its electron distribution can be distorted by an electric field, resulting in a larger induced dipole moment for a given field strength.
