Podkarpackie

Podkarpackie Voivodeship, also known as the Subcarpathian Voivodeship, is a province in south-eastern Poland. It is bordered by Slovakia to the south and Ukraine to the east, with the regional capital in Rzeszów. Other major towns include Przemyśl, Krosno, Sanok, Mielec, Stalowa Wola and Tarnobrzeg.

Geographically, the region spans parts of the Carpathian Mountains and the lowland corridors of the San and Wisłoka rivers. It features a mix of highland areas, foothill landscapes, and valleys, with a continental climate moderated by mountain influences. The area includes protected natural spaces and is known for its scenic routes and outdoor recreation opportunities.

The region has a diverse history as a borderland with influences from Polish, Ukrainian and Lemko communities. Notable historical sites include the Przemyśl Fortress and the Sanok ethnographic open-air museum. The area is recognized for its cultural heritage, historic towns, and wooden architecture scattered across various villages and towns.

Economy and infrastructure are diversified, with manufacturing and services centered around Rzeszów and surrounding towns. The Mielec area hosts significant aviation-related industry, while agricultural activities are important in the countryside. Rzeszów–Jasionka Airport provides international connections, and regional development programs aim to boost tourism, cross-border cooperation, and investment in mountain and nature areas.
