Krosno

Krosno is a city in the Subcarpathian Voivodeship in south-eastern Poland. It is the seat of Krosno County and of the urban gmina known as Gmina Miasto Krosno. The city lies along the Wisłoka river at the foothills of the Carpathian Mountains, roughly 60 kilometers south of Rzeszów, the voivodeship capital. The population is in the tens of thousands.

Krosno has medieval origins and appears in documents dating to the Middle Ages. It developed as a local trade center and received town privileges in the late medieval period. The town’s economy has long been associated with glassmaking, a craft that expanded in the 18th–19th centuries and continues to influence the region through manufacturing, design, and craft traditions. Tourism and services also play a role, with visitors drawn to the historic market square, religious monuments, and displays linked to the glass industry.

Notable features include historic churches and a sense of local heritage tied to glass production. The surrounding region contains countryside landscapes and access routes that connect Krosno with other regional centers in Podkarpackie Voivodeship.
