Subcarpathian
Subcarpathian is a geographic and historical term referring to areas located at the foothills of the Carpathian Mountains. In contemporary usage it most often denotes two major regions in Europe: the Podkarpacie (Podkarpackie Voivodeship) in southeastern Poland, and the Zakarpatska (Transcarpathian) Oblast in western Ukraine. The term has also been used in historical geography to describe broader Ruthenian lands between the Carpathians and the plains, collectively known as Subcarpathian Ruthenia.
