Pneumaattista

Pneumaattista is an Italian term used in Christian theological and historical writing to describe a person who emphasizes the work and gifts of the Holy Spirit in faith and life. The word is formed from the Greek pneuma, meaning “spirit,” combined with the -ista suffix, denoting a follower or advocate.

Historically, pneumaattisti have been invoked to characterize individuals or groups associated with pneumatism or with a pronounced focus on the Spirit's activity in conversion, revelation, and spiritual gifts. The label is not a formal denomination but a descriptive category applied in studies of patristic, medieval, or post-Reformation thought, often in polemical contexts.

In contemporary scholarship the term is relatively rare and is usually used for historical analysis rather than self-identification. Modern parallels include discussions of pneumatology, mysticism, revivalism, and charismatic movements, which similarly foreground direct experience of the Spirit.
