Plosiveiksi

Plosiveiksi is a Finnish linguistic term formed with the translative suffix -ksi, used to describe something that becomes or is treated as plosives. In Finnish linguistic writing, it can appear in phrases such as consonants becoming plosiveiksi, meaning “the consonants become plosives.” The form is a grammatical tool rather than a separate concept, and it is most often encountered in theoretical discussions of phonology, phonotactics, or historical sound changes.

Plosives, or stops, are consonants produced by completely blocking the airflow in the vocal tract and then releasing it to generate a sudden burst of sound. They are typically categorized by voicing (voiceless like p, t, k; voiced like b, d, g) and by place of articulation (bilabial p, b; alveolar t, d; velar k, g; glottal stops like ʔ). In many languages, voiceless plosives may accompany aspiration, which adds a short burst of air. The exact realization of plosives varies across languages, affecting perceived strength, timing, and the distribution of surrounding sounds.
