Playsranging

Playsranging is a somewhat obscure term that refers to a mid-20th century phenomenon in Germany, particularly in the context of youth culture. In the 1950s and 1960s, numerous rock and roll bands and musicians began to tour extensively throughout the country, playing in small towns, villages, and cities. These touring bands would travel from town to town, performing improvised concerts in sports halls, community centers, and other unconventional venues as well as traditional music halls.

This practice was often referred to as "Playsranging" in West Germany. The name is derived from the old German word for "traveling musician," which implies a degree of athleticism, adventure, and escapade. This adventurous approach to live music during the era was largely driven by the emergence of American rock and roll, which sparked a national musical revival in post-war Germany.

Playsranging, in its essence, was a scene dominated by informal, largely autonomous touring performances and close-knit local communities surrounding these bands. The underground music scene of the time held significant social impact in these lives of the protagonist and the population.

Playsranging bands often were self-organized, mainly by word of mouth and equivalent methods, and were devoid of official support or newspaper promotion. As a result, these performances were suited to unpretentious, compact, music hall happenings, therefore emphasizing, the unmediated and intense moment. This trend in Germany was often directly intertwined with that of emerging movements as the Beat music movement or with travels to the UK and the continent from which,Me were common.
