PlayStationKonsolen

PlayStationKonsolen is a family of home video game consoles developed by Sony Interactive Entertainment. The brand began with the original PlayStation, released in 1994 in Japan and 1995 worldwide, a CD-based system that helped establish 3D graphics in console gaming.

The second generation, PlayStation 2 (PS2), released in 2000, added DVD playback and became the best-selling console of all time. It offered backward compatibility with most PlayStation software and introduced online play via the Network Adapter.

The third generation, PlayStation 3 (PS3), released in 2006, used a Cell processor and Blu-ray as its game medium, enabling high-definition graphics and multimedia features. It supported online play through PlayStation Network and offered backward compatibility with most PS2 games on earlier hardware; later revisions reduced or removed PS2 compatibility.

The fourth generation, PlayStation 4 (PS4), released in 2013, focused on developer-friendly architecture, social features, and streaming; PSN enabled online multiplayer and digital storefronts. The PS4 line includes the PS4 Pro, which delivers enhanced performance. The fifth generation, PlayStation 5 (PS5), released in 2020, introduced a high-speed SSD, new CPU/GPU architecture, ray tracing, and an updated DualSense controller with haptic feedback. The PS5 supports most PS4 titles via backward compatibility and offers a digital edition without a disc drive.

In addition to hardware, PlayStation consoles are linked to online services such as the PlayStation Network, PlayStation Plus, and PlayStation Now, which provide multiplayer, cloud gaming, and access to a library of games and media.
