Plagiaadist

Plagiaadist is a coined term used to describe a person who engages in plagiarism on a recurring basis. In substance, a plagiaadist is someone who presents others’ text, ideas, or creative work as their own without proper attribution.

Forms of behavior commonly associated with a plagiaadist include verbatim copying without quotation marks or citation, close or patchy paraphrasing that preserves the original structure and ideas, and the repeated reuse of previously published work (self-plagiarism) without disclosure. The term may also be applied to individuals who assemble material from multiple sources into a new composition while failing to attribute those sources, or who misuse licensing terms to justify reuse.

Consequences for a plagiaadist can be severe and depend on the context. In academia, plagiarism can lead to academic penalties such as grade penalties, course failure, or expulsion. In professional settings, it can damage reputation, lead to terminations, and potentially expose individuals to copyright infringement claims.
