Pituudenmuutos

Pituudenmuutos, often translated as "change in length" or "elongation," is a physical concept describing the variation in the linear dimensions of an object due to external influences. This change can occur in any of the three spatial dimensions: length, width, or height, and is a fundamental aspect of material behavior under stress and temperature variations.

The most common causes of pituudenmuutos are thermal expansion and contraction, and mechanical stress. Thermal expansion occurs when an object absorbs heat, causing its constituent particles to vibrate more vigorously, leading to an increase in volume and thus, length.
